The second painting to feature in The Mystery Of The Ruby Glasses is The Pyramids Road, Gizah. It's a magnificent scene painted by Edward Lear who is better known for the nonsense rhymes he wrote than for his art work. This oil was painted in 1873. In my story I made up a ficticious account of a terrible sandstorm that hit this area just after Lear left. As you will read, this provoked Shey into undertaking a fearful adventure where she faced perils and made a new friend. You can see below how I used some of the elements from the painting in my story.

1) This is the first person that Shey speaks to when she enters the painting. The old man with the stick tells Shey that he passed Ruben hours earlier and that Ruben told him that he was looking for someone; someone who liked a princess. He showed the old man a photograph and said that he was heading for The Hall of Sirens. The old man warns Shey not to venture there then hobbles away.
